![]() To his credit, the newly appointed Lord Regent Malfoy worked tirelessly over the next decade to rehabilitate the tainted reputation of the House of Malfoy. With Oltair present, the family did very well for themselves considering the circumstances - though they did have to pay a hefty sum as compensation to some of the victims of Lucius. With his presence and the heavy hand of Lady Malfoy's native family, Lucius was convicted, stripped of his title and positions of authority, and cast into Azkaban. Despite having strained ties with their English cousins, the head of the main branch sent Oltair Malfoy to serve as the official regent for the English branch family's affairs until the official heir, Draco Malfoy reaches the age of majority. Days in advance, she'd appealed to the French branch of the House of Malfoy and sought their support for herself and for their infant son and heir. Fortunately - or unfortunately in the eyes of the Ministry - old Lucius' wife was no fool. Sentenced to life imprisonment in Azkaban Prison, the Ministry had cast greedy eyes on his extensive monetary assets, lands, and his seat and votes upon the Wizengamot. In the days following the fall of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, the formal Head of the House of Malfoy, Lucius Malfoy, had been tried by the entire body of the Wizengamot and found guilty of giving aid and comfort to a formally designated enemy of the Ministry of Magic and the nations of Britain and Ireland, association as a member of that monster's militia - the Death Eaters, and culpability for the deaths of several prominent members of Magi society, particularly the tragic murders of nearly the entire Bones family. Seated to the left of Lord Greengrass was the figure of Oltair Malfoy, Lord Regent for the Noble and Most Ancient House of Malfoy, and the proxy for that family's seat. And then there were their 'guests': not formally part of the TPP, but often allied with their interests. There were long-time colleagues who were formal members of the TPP: Lord Theusus Scamander, Lord Stephanos Pyrites, Lord Oman Shafiq, and Madam Samantha Milliphutt, the proxy representative for the Milliphutt seat in place of her ill great-uncle, the current Lord Milliphutt. "As lively as a scuttling collection of half-starved rats," she retorted, settling herself before casting a gimlet stare towards the other members of their party as well as invited guests.Ībout seven or so individuals not counting herself and Lord Greengrass were present in the office for a final update and strategy session before the beginning of the assembly. "Well, Dowager Longbottom? Does the chamber look as lively as we could hope for?" asked Lord Greengrass, his pale blue eyes shimmering with barely concealed mirth. With a shake of her head - neatly adorned with her favorite vulture-decorated hat, the old politician turned from the enchanted window and retook her seat within the office of her colleague and the Chief Magus of the Traditionalist Progressive Party (TPP), Sancus, Lord Greengrass. Even the distant relatives or close family members of the Magi representing their nation were present, making themselves comfortable in marked-off sections of the gallery reserved for them and their guests.Īugusta Longbottom, Dowager Lady of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Longbottom snorted at the unfolding chaos as ushers raced hither, tither, and yon to get the crowds settled before the beginning of the session. Unlike the typical crowds that would be present during sessions of the Wizengamot, today the public gallery was packed with visitors to the Ministry of Magic, citizens of Britain and Ireland interested in seeing the conclusion of the matters to be brought up in the session momentarily, members of the press - all jockeying for the most favorable positions to record as much of the twists and turns of the session to come as possible. The vast chamber was abuzz with voices, as the clock ticked down to the start of the final legislative session before the summer holiday recess.
